Phoenix Commercial Insurance Advisor: Commercial insurance "has a lot to do with caring about people"

Greg Cook, a commercial insurance advisor with Neate Dupey Insurance Group in Phoenix, said business insurance extends beyond basic policies to protecting the long-term viability of a company.

“In commercial… I’m looking after their livelihood,” Cook said, describing the role of insurance in safeguarding businesses owners have built over years or inherited from prior generations.

Cook said insurance is often misunderstood as a standardized product, but in practice requires a tailored approach. “It has a lot to do with caring about people… and trying to care for it,” he said, referring to assessing potential risks and building appropriate coverage.

He said many business owners initially seek coverage to meet basic requirements but may overlook additional risks. “You need to have general liability… workers’ compensation,” Cook said, adding that policies such as professional liability and employment practices liability can address issues beyond standard claims.

Cook said emerging risks are also reshaping how businesses approach insurance. “Cyber threats are becoming a really big thing,” he said, citing ransomware and malware attacks affecting both small and large organizations.

He emphasized the importance of understanding policy limitations. “The most important sections are the ones that say exclusion and losses not insured,” Cook said, noting that gaps in coverage can lead to unexpected exposure.

Cook said his role as a broker allows him to customize policies based on client needs. “I can go to a carrier… and get a package put together,” he said, adding that flexibility helps balance cost with coverage.

He also noted that new business owners often overlook foundational planning when evaluating insurance needs. “One of the first questions… is what their anticipated revenue… is going to be,” Cook said, adding that many have not fully considered those projections.

Cook works with Neate Dupey Insurance Group, a brokerage serving Arizona businesses and clients across multiple states, with a focus on contractors and small businesses seeking customized commercial coverage.
